Origin
The Ficus cyathistipula originally comes from the tropical regions of Africa, specifically central and western parts. This plant, which can be found in a variety of different habitats, notably populates rainforests, mangroves, and areas near rivers. Also known as the African fig tree, this species is an important part of African flora.

Characteristics

The Ficus cyathistipula is a shrub or small evergreen tree that can reach up to 12 meters in height. The features of this ficus include elliptical to oval leaves, which are brilliantly green and can grow up to 18 cm long. The plant produces what are known as figs, which are actually flowers encapsulated in a protective structure. These are small, round, and grow in pairs. They start off green but turn red as they ripen.

Care

The Ficus cyathistipula requires a warm environment and does not tolerate temperatures below 15 °C well. The plant needs well-drained soil and requires regular watering, especially during the growing season. Although the plant likes light, direct sunlight should be avoided, as it can damage the leaves. The plant can be grown indoors or outdoors but should be moved indoors when the temperature begins to drop.
