Origin
The Ficus binnendijkii ‘Amstel King’, better known as ‘Alii’, originates from Southeast Asia and Northern Australia. In these regions, the plant grows in tropical rainforests and on the humid slopes of mountains. Narrow, long leaves and an elegant growth habit characterize this particular species of Ficus, which made its way to the Western world in the early 20th century.
Characteristics
The Ficus binnendijkii ‘Amstel King’ is characterized by its long, narrow, dark green leaves that hang gently. The plant can reach up to 3 meters in height and is therefore an excellent choice for large spaces. It has a sturdy, brown trunk that forms an attractive accent against the dark foliage. This ficus is a popular indoor plant due to its tolerance to various light conditions.
Care
The Ficus binnendijkii ‘Amstel King’ needs a fair amount of light but doesn’t withstand direct sunlight well. Indirect light is best for the growth and maintenance of the plant’s health. The plant requires a moderate amount of water; it’s good to let the soil slightly dry out between waterings to prevent root rot. The Ficus ‘Amstel King’ is also sensitive to temperatures and prefers a constant temperature between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius.
