Origin
The Ficus binnendijkii ‘Amstel King’, better known as ‘Alii’, originates from Southeast Asia and Northern Australia. In these regions, the plant grows in humid rainforests and on moist mountain slopes. Narrow, long leaves and an elegant growth habit characterize this particular species of Ficus, which made its way to the Western world at the beginning of the 20th century.
Characteristics
The Ficus binnendijkii ‘Amstel King’ is characterized by its long, narrow, dark green leaves that hang gently. The plant can reach up to 3 meters in height and is therefore an excellent choice for large spaces. The plant has a solid, brown-colored trunk that forms an attractive accent to the dark foliage. This ficus is a popular indoor plant due to its tolerance to various light conditions.
Care
The Ficus binnendijkii ‘Amstel King’ requires a fairly large amount of light but does not do well in direct sunlight. Indirect light is best for the growth and health maintenance of the plant. The plant needs a moderate amount of water, and it is advisable to let the soil dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. The Ficus ‘Amstel King’ is also sensitive to temperatures and prefers a constant temperature between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius.
