Description

Origin
The Ficus benghalensis ‘Audrey’, better known as the ‘Audrey’ Banyan Tree, originates from India and Pakistan. In its natural habitat, it can reach gigantic sizes and is therefore a highly respected and protected plant. This impressive tree is known in India as the national tree.

Characteristics

The Ficus benghalensis ‘Audrey’ is an evergreen tree distinguished by its broad canopy of dense leaves. The leaves are large, leathery, and glossy with a dark green color that contrasts nicely with the light gray to pink bark. The ‘Audrey’ has a remarkable aerial root structure, contributing to the plant’s overall shape and appeal. This plant does not produce flowers.

Care

For optimal growth, the Ficus benghalensis ‘Audrey’ requires bright indirect light but can also adapt to brighter and darker conditions. Regular watering is important, but the plant should never be left sitting in water. Allow the soil surface to dry between waterings. The ‘Audrey’ likes high humidity, so it might be beneficial to mist the leaves with water or place the plant near a humidifier. It is also important to repot the plant as soon as the roots begin to grow out of the drainage holes.
