Description
Origin
Euphorbia marmorata, also known as Marbled Spurge, is native to South Africa. More specifically, this species is found particularly in the Northern Cape and Western Cape provinces, where it grows in dry, rocky environments. It is a member of the Euphorbiaceae family, a diverse family comprising many plant species encountered worldwide.
Characteristics
Euphorbia marmorata is a succulent plant renowned for its attractive, marbled leaf patterns. The plant forms low, compact clusters of very thick, rounded leaves, typically bluish-green with characteristic clear markings. The plant also produces small yellow flowers on short stems, generally blooming from late spring to early summer. Unlike many other Euphorbia, Euphorbia marmorata does not bear spines.
Care
Euphorbia marmorata requires minimal care and is perfectly suited for gardeners who prefer low-maintenance plants. This species thrives well in full sun or partial shade and requires well-drained soil to prevent root rot. Although the plant offers some drought tolerance, regular watering during the summer months is necessary for optimal growth. In winter, however, watering must be significantly reduced or completely stopped. Euphorbia marmorata can withstand light frost, but should be brought indoors in case of severe freezing temperatures.
