Origin
The Euphorbia ingens, more commonly known as Cowboy Cactus or Candle Cactus, originates from the semi-deserts of South Africa. The species is characterized by its adaptations to the harsh and dry conditions of the region, where summers are hot and dry and winters are mild to cold.
Characteristics
The Euphorbia ingens is a succulent belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family. The plant can grow up to 5 meters in height and has a characteristic tree-like growth with many branches that end in attractive chandelier shapes. The trunk is gray and the branches have deep grooves. The dark green leaves are small, elliptical, and closely packed. The flowers, which appear in winter, are small, yellow, and lack notable petals.
Care
Although the Euphorbia ingens thrives in harsh conditions in the wild, the plant is quite easy to maintain and suitable for indoor cultivation or in a garden. The plant requires plenty of sunlight and should be planted in well-drained soil to avoid root rot. It is important to water the plant sparingly, especially in winter when it enters a resting period. During the growing season, the plant may benefit from light fertilization.
