Description
Origin
The Euphorbia erythrea, also known as the chandelier cactus, is native to East Africa, where it ranges from Ethiopia to South Africa. It is a member of the Euphorbiaceae family, a large family of plants with many different forms and sizes.
Characteristics
The Euphorbia erytrea is notable for its long segmented stems that grow in a spiral. It grows upright and can reach a maximum height of 5 meters. Its color ranges from dark green to blue-green with bright red hues. The plant has small waxy leaves that fall off quickly and produces inconspicuous red flowers.
Care
For the care of Euphorbia erytrea, it is important to plant it in well-draining soil and provide it with moderate to abundant light. Overwatering should be avoided, as this can cause root rot. Indoors, the plant thrives best at an average room temperature of 20 degrees Celsius. The plant generally requires more water during the growth period and less during the dormant period.
