Description
Origin
Euphorbia echinus is a plant species native to the southern and western regions of the Sudanese Sahel in Africa. Its natural habitat includes dry and rocky areas and arid slopes. It is part of the Euphorbiaceae family, better known as the Euphorbia family. In extra-tropical climates, Euphorbia echinus is often cultivated as an ornamental plant.
Features
Euphorbia echinus has several remarkable features. It is a succulent shrub that, in its natural habitat, can reach a height of up to one and a half meters. The branches of this plant are cylindrical and covered with angular spiny protrusions. The flowers of Euphorbia echinus are small, inconspicuous, and generally yellow, with male and female flowers growing separately on the same plant.
Care
To keep Euphorbia echinus healthy, there are some care guidelines to follow. The plant prefers full sun and sandy, well-drained soil. Watering should always be done in moderation, especially in winter during the resting period, as excess water can be fatal for these plants. Its ability to withstand dry conditions also makes Euphorbia echinus ideal for xeriscaping, a type of low-maintenance landscape architecture. Fertilizer can be used but is generally not necessary, and if used, should preferably be applied during the growth period.
