Description

Origin
The Echinocactus grusonii, also known as the Golden Barrel Cactus, originates from Central America, particularly Mexico. The species is named after Hermann E. Gruson, a German industrialist and cactus grower. The growth conditions in their natural habitat are harsh, which is reflected in the plant’s specific growth and fertility characteristics.

Characteristics

The Echinocactus grusonii is a slow-growing spherical cactus. It is a late-blooming plant, with white flowers appearing only when the plant is mature, usually after about twenty years. The plant can reach up to one meter in height and 80 centimeters in diameter. The plant’s appearance is remarkable, with many spiny ribs and a thick yellow color.

Care

Caring for the Echinocactus grusonii requires particular attention. The cactus needs plenty of sunlight and should be placed in a well-lit area. The temperature can reach up to 30 degrees during the day and should remain above 10 degrees at night. It requires little water, and it is essential to avoid constantly moist soil, as this can cause root rot. It is advisable not to water at all during the winter.
