Description

Origin
The Dypsis lutescens, also known as the Areca palm, originates from Madagascar. It is a common species in tropical and subtropical climates. Here, the plant grows well both in the shade of the forest and in open spaces. Today, the plant can be found worldwide as an indoor plant, thanks to its beneficial properties and its tolerance to various climatic conditions.

Characteristics

The Dypsis lutescens is a medium-sized palm species that can reach about 6 meters tall. The plant’s leaves are pinnate and green-yellowish in color. The plant has several stems that grow from a central point, giving it a dense and bushy appearance. When fully developed, it can produce small yellow flowers followed by decorative, non-edible fruits that turn from red to black when mature.

Care

The Dypsis lutescens requires a sunny to semi-shaded location, but does not tolerate direct sunlight. The ideal temperature for this plant is between 18 and 27 degrees Celsius. It is advisable to water the plant regularly, but ensure that excess water can drain to prevent root rot. The Areca palm also enjoys high humidity, so misting water on the plant from time to time can be beneficial. The plant prefers well-drained, nutrient-rich soil.
