Origin
The Dracaena surculosa, also known as the “goudstofdracaena,” is native to West Africa. In this region, this species of exotic plant is primarily found in tropical forests. It mainly grows in the shade, under the dense canopy of trees, where it is protected from direct sunlight.
Characteristics
The Dracaena surculosa is a foliage plant distinguished by its bright colors and remarkable leaf pattern. The leaves are generally dark with light yellow spots, resulting from an irregular formation of chlorophyll. These leaves spiral around the plant’s stem. In the right conditions, the Dracaena surculosa can reach a height of about 150 centimeters.
Care
The Dracaena surculosa needs plenty of light near the window, but not direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. It needs regular watering, but make sure the roots do not stay in water too long to prevent root rot. In winter, it is sufficient to water the plant every two weeks, while in summer, weekly watering is recommended.
