Description

Origin
Dracaena marginata ‘Sunray’, also known as the Madagascar dragon tree, originates from Madagascar. This tree-like plant belongs to the Asparagaceae family and mainly grows in dry regions of the tropical island. The botanical name ‘Marginata’ is derived from the Latin word ‘margo’, meaning ‘margin’ or ‘edge’, referring to the narrow shape of the leaves.

Features

Dracaena marginata ‘Sunray’ has a distinctive appearance. The plant grows slowly and can eventually reach more than fifteen meters in height in its natural environment. It has narrow, striated leaves with red edges that can be up to one meter long and a few centimeters wide. The plant’s stems are usually straight, but they begin to branch as the plant ages.

Care

Dracaena marginata ‘Sunray’ prefers indirect sunlight. Too much direct sunlight can burn the leaves. The plant does not need much water, and excess water can even cause root rot. It is recommended to plant it in well-draining soil and to wait until the top layer of soil is dry between waterings. Dracaena marginata ‘Sunray’ can tolerate relatively low temperatures, but the ideal temperature for growth is between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius.
