Origin
The Dracaena fragrans ‘Surprise’ is native to the tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, South Asia, and America. This green houseplant belongs to the Asparagaceae family and is also popularly known as Dracaena sanguin.
Characteristics
The Dracaena fragrans ‘Surprise’ is characterized by its long, shiny dark green leaves that often have a yellow-green border. The upright trunk is sturdy and loses its leaves over the years, creating a characteristic pattern. The plant can reach a considerable height, up to two meters in ideal conditions. It is a slow-growing plant, and flowering is rare.
Care
The Dracaena fragrans ‘Surprise’ prefers a bright to semi-shaded location but does not tolerate direct sunlight. It is advisable to water the plant moderately; the soil can somewhat dry out between waterings. During the winter period, watering can be even more limited.
