Dracaena fragrans ‘Compacta’, often known as Corn Plant, is native to the tropical regions of Africa, particularly West Africa. Despite this exotic origin, the plant is cultivated worldwide as a popular houseplant and can be found in many climates.
Characteristics
Dracaena fragrans ‘Compacta’ is distinguished by its dark green, glossy leaves that are tightly wrapped around its trunk, hence the nickname ‘Compacta’. The plant can reach a height of 1.5 to 3 meters and a width of about 0.6 to 1.2 meters. It has a slow growth rate and can take many years to reach its maximum size. ‘Compacta’ rarely blooms, but when it does, it produces small white flowers.
Care
Caring for Dracaena fragrans ‘Compacta’ is quite simple. The plant has moderate light needs and thrives both in indirect sunlight and artificial light. It is important to water it moderately; the soil should be dry before being watered again to prevent root rot.
