Origin
Dracaena fragrans ‘Compacta’, often known as the Corn Plant, is native to tropical regions of Africa, particularly West Africa. Despite this exotic origin, the plant is cultivated worldwide as a popular houseplant and can be found in many climates.
Characteristics
The Dracaena fragrans ‘Compacta’ is distinguished by its dark green, shiny leaves that are tightly wrapped around its trunk, hence the nickname ‘Compacta’. The plant can reach a height of 1.5 to 3 meters and a width of about 0.6 to 1.2 meters. It has slow growth and may take many years to reach its maximum size. The ‘Compacta’ rarely flowers, but when it does, it produces small white flowers.
Care
Caring for the Dracaena fragrans ‘Compacta’ is quite simple. The plant has moderate light needs and does well both in indirect sunlight and artificial light. It is important to water it moderately; the soil should be dry before watering again to avoid root rot. Furthermore, the plant likes humid environments, so it is advisable to place it near a humidifier.
