Description

Origin
The Cycas revoluta, also known as the Sago Palm, originates from southern Japan and the Ryukyu Islands. Here, the plant grows in forests, but also on rocky coasts. The plant has adapted to a wide range of climates and is now widespread around the world as an ornamental plant in gardens and parks.

Characteristics

The Cycas revoluta is a slow-growing palm-like plant, characterized by its hard, leathery, feather-like leaves. The plant can grow up to 3 meters tall. This plant develops large cones and bears either male or female flowers, meaning individual plants are either male or female. Although the leaves are a fresh green, the plant resembles a palm tree more than a fern due to its woody trunk.

Care

The Cycas revoluta requires little maintenance and is therefore an easy-care plant. The plant prefers a sunny to semi-shaded location and well-draining soil. Generally, this plant needs little water; too much water can even lead to root rot. For optimal growth, it’s important to fertilize the plant annually.
