Description
Origin
The Croton (Codiaeum) variegatum ‘Mammi’ originates from Southeast Asia and Oceania, reaching the Pacific. These are cultivated varieties, with ‘Mammi’ being a specific member of this species. It is also known by another name in English.
Characteristics
The characteristics of the Croton ‘Mammi’ are its multicolored and curly leaves that give a very remarkable appearance to this plant. The colors range from green, red, yellow, orange to purple. The leaves are shiny and leathery. The plant can reach a height of about 50-60 centimeters, but under ideal conditions, the ‘Mammi’ can grow larger.
Care
The Croton ‘Mammi’ requires specific care to maintain its variegated color. The plant needs plenty of light, but direct sunlight can damage the foliage. A bright and semi-shaded location is ideal. The ‘Mammi’ likes high humidity, so it needs to be misted regularly. It is important to water regularly, but avoid excess water to prevent root rot. It is recommended to fertilize the plant weekly during the growth period, which extends from spring to fall. In winter, the plant rests a bit and needs less water and food.
