Description
Origin
Crassula ovata ‘Horntree’, also known as Jade Plant, originates from South Africa. It belongs to the Crassulaceae family which includes more than 200 different species. The plant has evolved in desert-like conditions, with a long period of drought followed by short intense rains.
Characteristics
The Crassula ovata ‘Horntree’ is a succulent plant, which means it stores water in its juicy leaves and stem. It has a woody stem with plump, oval, and shiny green leaves. The plant can reach a height between 60 cm and 3 meters if conditions are favorable. In winter, the ‘Horntree’ produces white or light pink flowers.
Care
The Crassula ovata ‘Horntree’ needs a lot of light but cannot withstand direct sunlight well. Ideally, it should be placed near a north-facing window. The plant does not need much water; watering it once every two weeks is usually sufficient. When temperatures drop below 5°C, the plant should be kept indoors. Additionally, the plant cannot tolerate excessive water well; it is better to underwater than overwater it. A well-drained soil type is recommended to prevent the roots from staying in water.
