Description
Origin
The Crassula ovata ‘Gollum’, also known as Hobbitplant or Gollum Jade, originates from South Africa. In nature, this succulent is found in rocky areas with little moisture. The plant is named after the character Gollum from J.R.R. Tolkien’s books, due to its tubular, wavy leaves that closely resemble Gollum’s fingers.
Characteristics
The Crassula ovata ‘Gollum’ is a succulent known for its remarkable curved leaves. The plant can grow up to one and a half meters high and has a dense, bushy growth. The leaves are dark green with tubular shapes and a red edge. Additionally, in winter, the plant may produce small white or pink flowers, depending on the light and conditions.
Care
The Crassula ovata ‘Gollum’ is an easy-to-care-for plant that loves plenty of light but can also thrive with indirect light. The plant is drought-tolerant and requires limited watering; in summer, watering once every two weeks is sufficient, while in winter, once a month is adequate. It is important to avoid overwatering as this can cause root rot. The temperature should ideally be between 15 and 22 degrees Celsius for optimal growth.
