Description
Origin
The Crassula ovata ‘Gollum’, also known as Hobbitplant or Gollum Jade, originates from South Africa. In nature, this succulent is found in rocky areas with little moisture. The plant is named after the character Gollum from J.R.R. Tolkien’s books, due to its tubular and wavy leaves that strongly resemble Gollum’s fingers.
Characteristics
The Crassula ovata ‘Gollum’ is a succulent known for its remarkable curved leaves. The plant can grow up to one and a half meters tall and has dense, bushy growth. The leaves are dark green in color and tube-shaped with a red edge. Additionally, in winter, the plant can produce small white or pink flowers, depending on lighting and conditions.
Care
The Crassula ovata ‘Gollum’ is an easy-to-care-for plant that loves a lot of light, but can also grow well with indirect light. The plant is drought-resistant and has limited water needs; in summer, watering once every two weeks is sufficient, while in winter, once a month is adequate. It is important to avoid overwatering as this can cause root rot. The temperature should ideally be between 15 and 22 degrees Celsius for optimal growth.
