Description

Origin
Cortaderia selloana, also known as the Pampas grass, originates from South America. It primarily grows in the pampas of Argentina, but also in Brazil and Chile. The plant was introduced to Europe in the 19th century and is now used worldwide as an ornamental plant.

Characteristics

Cortaderia selloana is characterized by its tall, elegant white or pink plumes, which provide an impressive display from August to October. The plant has long, sharp leaves of a grey-green color. Its height is generally 2 to 3 meters, but in optimal growing conditions, it can reach up to 4 meters.

Care

Cortaderia selloana prefers a sunny location and requires well-drained soil to thrive. Although the plant tolerates drought well, it appreciates regular watering during dry periods. In winter, the plant can withstand temperatures down to -10 degrees Celsius, but protection is advisable during severe frost. Pruning can be done in the spring, where old plumes and dead leaves can be removed to make way for new growth.
