Description

Origin
The Cortaderia selloana ‘Pumila’, also known as pampas grass, originates from the southern part of South America. This plant is found in countries such as Argentina, Chile, and Brazil. It belongs to the Poaceae family and the Cortaderia genus.

Characteristics

The Cortaderia selloana ‘Pumila’ is an impressive plant that can reach between 1.2 and 1.5 meters in height, but under ideal conditions, it can grow up to 3 meters. The plant’s leaves are sharp and have a blue-green color. The most striking feature of the plant is the rich silvery-white plumes that grow on long, sturdy stems. These plumes can be up to 60 cm long and often appear in late summer or early fall.

Maintenance

For maintaining the Cortaderia selloana ‘Pumila’, it’s important that the plant has enough space to grow. It needs a sunny to partially shaded location and is very drought-tolerant. The plant does not like excessive moisture, so well-drained soil is essential. To preserve the beauty of the plumes, it is recommended to prune the plant in the spring to about 20 to 30 cm above the ground.
