Description
Origin
The Bulnesia arborea, also known by its common name, originates from the North-South region of the Americas. These regions include parts of Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana to the Caribbean region. It is a typical tree species found in dry tropical forests and savannas, often present on limestone-rich soils.
Characteristics
The Bulnesia arborea is distinguished by its straight, majestic growth and size, with a final height between 15 and 20 meters. The tree species has dark, compact foliage composed of long narrow leaves that tend to droop. During the flowering period, usually in spring, the plant develops remarkable yellow flowers that emit a pleasant and strong fragrance, making it attractive to bees and butterflies. The wood of this tree species is highly prized for its extreme density and durability, and is often used in fine carpentry and carving.
Maintenance
In terms of maintenance, the Bulnesia arborea requires well-drained soil and full sunlight for optimal growth. In winter, the plant should be protected against temperatures below zero, as it is not frost-resistant. It is recommended to water the tree sufficiently, but avoid excessively wet soil. Being a slow-growing species, pruning is generally not necessary, although removing dead or damaged branches can contribute to the overall health and appearance of the tree.
