Description

Origin
The Beaucarnea recurvata, also known as the Ponytail Palm, is a plant species native to the arid regions of Mexico. The plant mainly grows in semi-desert areas and is adapted to a life with little water. Thanks to their longevity and resilience, these plants have been introduced in many regions around the world.

Characteristics

The Beaucarnea recurvata is a succulent plant, allowing it to store water in its single, thickened trunk, hence the nickname ‘elephant’s foot’. The plant has a distinctive style with long, drooping green leaves that grow from the top part of the trunk. This makes the plant resemble a small palm tree. The plant can grow indoors up to a height of about two meters, but in its natural environment, it can reach up to ten meters high.

Care

The Beaucarnea recurvata is an easy-to-care-for plant, suitable for beginners. It prefers bright light but can also survive in partial shade. The plant needs very little water. In summer, watering once every two weeks is sufficient and in winter, even once a month. Too much water can lead to root rot. The plant thrives best in a normal room temperature and dislikes cold drafts. It is also important not to repot the plant too often, as this could damage the roots.
