Description
Origin
The Athyrium Spicatum is a species of fern native to East Asia, particularly Japan, Korea, and China. It grows in forests, on rocky slopes, and along streams. The plant is evergreen in mild climates and deciduous in colder regions.
Characteristics
The Athyrium Spicatum has long, upright leaf stalks that can reach between 30 and 120 centimeters in length. The leaves are elongated and broad with shallow teeth along the edges. The leaf is twice pinnate, meaning the leaf is divided into leaf segments that are further divided into smaller segments. Additionally, the leaves produce numerous small clusters of round spores on their underside.
Care
The Athyrium Spicatum grows best in partial shade or full shade and requires moist but well-drained soil. Although the plant can tolerate some drought, it thrives when the soil remains consistently moist, especially during the summer months. It is advisable to fertilize the plant in spring to promote growth.
