Description
Origin
The Arenga engleri, also known as the Dwarf Sugar Palm, originates from the forests of East Asia. This type of palm mainly grows in Pacific islands, such as Taiwan and the Philippines, where the climate is warm and humid.
Characteristics
The Arenga engleri is a hardy palm that remains small and has dark green pinnate leaves. It is a slow-growing plant that can reach up to 4 meters in height. The clusters of black fruits it produces are also characteristic, indicating a relationship with the sugar palm. This plant grows from a short, thick trunk that is very fibrous, a typical feature of the Arenga species.
Care
The Arenga engleri requires well-drained soil and is quite frost-resistant. Ensure it is provided with a spot from partial shade to full sun and keep the soil slightly dry between waterings. It is recommended to regularly spray water on the leaves to keep the plant healthy. Additionally, the palm should be regularly misted with a spray bottle to maintain high humidity. The palm has shallow roots and does not impose many requirements on soil structure.
