Description

Origin
The Areca Catechu, also known as Betel Palm, originally finds its origin in the tropical forests of Malaysia and the Philippines. It is there that the plant primarily grows in its natural environment, mainly in coastal areas and on mountain slopes. Over the centuries, the Betel Palm has been spread to other parts of the world, including the Indian subcontinent and the Pacific islands.

Characteristics

The Areca Catechu is known for its tall and slender trunk that can reach 20 meters in height. The leaves are divided into many thin leaflets and can reach two meters in length. At the top of the plant, flowers appear that are followed by small red fruits. These fruits are called “betel nuts” and are traditionally used in Asian culture.

Care

Caring for the Areca Catechu requires some attention. The palm prefers high humidity and a temperature between 16 and 24 degrees Celsius. In its natural environment, the plant grows in the shade, so it is recommended to choose a bright spot without direct sunlight. It is important to keep the plant’s soil constantly moist, but excess water can cause root rot.
