Description

Origin
The dwarf Areca catechu, also known as the Betel Palm, is a palm species native to the subtropical and tropical regions of Southeast Asia and the Pacific. This plant is frequently found in the Philippines, Malaysia, and southern India.

Characteristics

The dwarf Areca catechu is a small to medium palm that can reach about 1.5 to 2 meters in height. The plant’s leaves are pinnate and can be 1 to 2 meters long. This palm has a thin trunk, often slightly curved, with thickness varying in adult individuals. The plant also produces small yellow flowers and fruits ranging from orange to red.

Care

Caring for the dwarf Areca catechu requires a specific approach. Firstly, the plant thrives best in full sun to partial shade and needs well-draining soil to prevent water accumulation. It’s important to water the plant regularly, but excessive watering should be avoided as it can cause root rot. Additionally, the dwarf Areca catechu is not frost-resistant and should be brought indoors or adequately protected during the coldest months of the year.
