Description
Origin
The dwarf Areca catechu, also known as the dwarf palm, has its origins in Southeast Asia and the Pacific islands. It is in these tropical forests that this type of palm grows and is cultivated for its seeds: the betel nut. Today, the palm is also cultivated in other tropical regions around the world.
Features
A distinguishing feature of the dwarf Areca catechu is its compact size. Unlike other palm species, this one only reaches a height of 6 to 10 meters. The dwarf palm has long, elegant dark green leaves that grow upwards before arching down. Throughout the year, the palm produces small yellow flowers, followed by round, red fruits.
Care
The dwarf Areca catechu needs plenty of sunlight and good watering to grow. The palm can survive in a variety of soils, but it prefers well-drained soil. Although this palm is drought-tolerant, it prefers regular watering. Moreover, the plant thrives best at temperatures between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius.
