Description
Origin
The Areca Catechu, also known as Betel Palm, originates primarily in the tropical forests of Malaysia and the Philippines. It grows mainly in its natural environment, primarily in coastal areas and on mountain slopes. Over the centuries, the Betel Palm has spread to other parts of the world, including the Indian subcontinent and Pacific islands.
Characteristics
The Areca Catechu is known for its tall, slender trunk that can reach up to 20 meters in height. The leaves are divided into many slender leaf blades and can reach up to two meters in length. At the top of the plant, flowers appear followed by small red fruits. These fruits are called “betel nuts” and are traditionally used in Asian culture.
Maintenance
Caring for the Areca Catechu requires some attention. The palm prefers high humidity and a temperature between 16 and 24 degrees Celsius. In its natural environment, the plant grows in the shade, so it’s recommended to choose a bright spot without direct sunlight. It is important to keep the plant’s soil consistently moist, but excess water can cause root rot.
