Description
Origin
The Archontophoenix alexandrae, also known as the royal palm, originates from Australia. This type of palm prefers to grow in tropical and subtropical regions. In Australia, it is primarily found in the rainforests of Queensland and New South Wales. This plant is named after Queen Alexandra of Denmark.
Characteristics
The Archontophoenix alexandrae is an elegant and tall palm that can reach a height of 15 to 25 meters. Its trunk is solitary, slender, and straight, with an attractive light gray bark. The leaves are feather-shaped and can reach a length of 2 to 3 meters, with flowers that vary from white to cream. The fruits produced by the palm are small, red, and oval-shaped.
Care
The royal palm needs plenty of sunlight and does not like to be exposed to freezing temperatures. The plant prefers loose, rich, and well-drained soil and should be watered abundantly, although it can also withstand short periods of drought. It is recommended to protect the tree against strong winds due to the risk of damage to the trunk. The tree requires little maintenance, apart from the periodic pruning of dead leaves.
