Origin
The Anthurium andraeanum ‘Sierra’ is a plant species originally from the tropical rainforests of Colombia and Ecuador in South America. The plant belongs to the Araceae family, also known as Arums. The Anthurium andraeanum ‘Sierra’ is specifically named after Édouard François André, a French botanist who introduced several types of anthuriums to Europe in the 19th century.

Characteristics

The Anthurium andraeanum ‘Sierra’ is known for its striking, heart-shaped leaves that shine in the light. The plant also produces remarkable flowers, also known as spathes, which can be bright red or pink in color. These flowers are surrounded by a green bract. The Anthurium andraeanum ‘Sierra’ can reach a height of about 60 centimeters and blooms year-round, with a peak during the summer months.

Care

For optimal growth and blooming of the Anthurium andraeanum ‘Sierra’, it is important to replicate the conditions of its original habitat. The plant prefers a warm spot with plenty of indirect light and high humidity. The soil should be well-drained and the plant should be watered regularly, but it should not remain in water. In spring and summer, you can feed the plant once a month with a general liquid indoor plant fertilizer.
