Description
Origin
The Anthurium andraeanum ‘Joli’ belongs to the Araceae family and is native to Colombia and Ecuador. Like other members of the Anthurium genus, the ‘Joli’ naturally grows in the humid, shaded environment of the rainforest. In its natural habitat, it grows as an epiphyte, meaning it grows on other plants without extracting nutrients from them.
Characteristics
The Anthurium andraeanum ‘Joli’ is recognized by its shiny, heart-shaped leaves and its colorful spathes, often pink or purple. The plant has dense, upward growth, giving it a compact and bushy form. The ‘Joli’ is distinguished by its flowering habit and blooming period; it blooms all year round, peaking in the summer months, and has very noticeable long, pendulous flowers. The Anthurium Andraeanum ‘Joli’ is often called the flamingo plant.
Care
Caring for the Anthurium andraeanum ‘Joli’ requires a location with plenty of indirect sunlight, but it does not tolerate direct sunlight well. The plant prefers a constant temperature of about 20 degrees Celsius. It is recommended to water it regularly but allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. Similarly, the ‘Joli’ requires high air humidity, which can be replicated by regularly misting the leaves with water. Fertilizing once or twice a month during the growing season can promote growth and blooming.
