Description
Origin
Aloe vera barbadensis is a plant species belonging to the Asphodelaceae family. This particular plant, also known as True Aloe, originates from the Arabian Peninsula. Here, it constitutes an important part of the local flora. Over the centuries, this succulent plant has spread to other subtropical and tropical regions worldwide, where it now grows wild and in gardens.
Characteristics
What distinguishes Aloe vera barbadensis are its succulent, blue-green leaves that grow in a rosette shape. The leaves, thick and fleshy, are designed to store water between droughts. They also contain a clear sap, similar to a gel, used for medical purposes. The plant can reach a height of 60 to 100 cm. During the flowering season, the plant produces yellow flowers on long stalks that extend above the leaves.
Care
Care for Aloe vera barbadensis varies depending on environmental conditions, but generally, it is quite easy to maintain. The plant needs plenty of sunlight and should be placed in a location where it receives a lot of sun each day. As for watering, this succulent requires moderate watering, the soil should be allowed to dry between waterings to prevent root rot, a common issue with this type of plant. The plant also thrives in well-drained soil, which helps prevent the roots from sitting in water.
