Description

Origin
Aloe marlothii, also known as Mountain Aloe, originates from South Africa, specifically in the provinces of Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and KwaZulu-Natal, where it grows on rocky slopes and grasslands. Here, the species has adapted to a diversity of climates, ranging from hot and dry regions to cooler areas with higher rainfall.

Characteristics

What distinguishes Aloe marlothii are its impressive size and unique physical characteristics. Aloe marlothii can reach a height of 3 to 6 meters and has several branched stems, each bearing a rosette of oblong, fleshy leaves. The leaves are gray to blue-green in color and adorned with brown spines. Additionally, the plant is characterized by its remarkable orange-red flowers, which appear during the winter months and attract a large number of birds and insects.

Care

In terms of care, Aloe marlothii is a relatively simple plant. It thrives in full sun and withstands dry conditions well, making it particularly suited for water-efficient gardens. Once the plant is established, it requires little water. Well-drained soil is essential to prevent water from stagnating around the roots, which can lead to root rot. Although the plant can withstand some frost, a minimum winter temperature of -2°C is recommended. Moreover, the plant requires little fertilization and should be repotted every 3 to 5 years.
