Description

Origin
The Alocasia zebrina is a tropical plant native to the Philippines. It grows wild in the humid tropical forests there. However, the plant is now also known in many other parts of the world, primarily as a popular houseplant.

Characteristics

The Alocasia zebrina is particularly recognizable for its large arrow-shaped leaves and striped stems, which have earned it the nickname ‘zebra plant’. The leaf is dark green and can reach a length of up to 90 cm. Another characteristic aspect of this plant is its white and black striped stems.

Care

Caring for the Alocasia zebrina requires some attention. The plant thrives best at a consistent temperature between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius and should ideally be placed in a spot with indirect light. A place too dark can lead to leaf loss. Regarding water needs, the Alocasia zebrina prefers slightly moist soil, but it’s important to prevent root rot by avoiding overwatering. Finally, regular fertilization will help the plant stay healthy and strong.
