Description
Origin
The Alocasia zebrina is a tropical plant native to the Philippines. It grows wild in the humid tropical forests there. However, the plant is also now known in many other parts of the world, mainly as a popular houseplant.
Characteristics
The Alocasia zebrina is particularly recognizable by its large arrow-shaped leaves and striped stems, which have given it the nickname ‘zebra plant’. The leaf is dark green in color and can reach a length of up to 90 cm. Another characteristic aspect of this plant is its black and white striped stems.
Care
Caring for Alocasia zebrina requires some attention. The plant thrives best at a constant temperature between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius and should ideally be placed in a location with indirect light. A spot that is too dark may lead to leaf loss. Regarding water requirements, Alocasia zebrina prefers slightly moist soil, but it is necessary to prevent root rot by avoiding overwatering. Finally, regular fertilization will help the plant remain healthy and strong.
