Description
Origin
The Alocasia zebrina is a tropical plant native to the Philippines. It grows there wild in tropical rainforests. However, the plant is now also known in many other parts of the world, mainly as a popular houseplant.
Characteristics
The Alocasia zebrina is notably recognizable by its large arrow-shaped leaves and striped stems, which gave it the nickname of ‘zebra plant’. The leaf is dark green and can reach a length of up to 90 cm. Another characteristic aspect of this plant is its black and white striped stems.
Care
Caring for the Alocasia zebrina requires some attention. The plant thrives best at a constant temperature between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius and should ideally be placed in an area with indirect light. Too dark a place can lead to leaf loss. Regarding water needs, the Alocasia zebrina prefers slightly moist soil, but it’s necessary to prevent root rot by avoiding overwatering. Finally, regular fertilization will help the plant remain healthy and strong.
