This plant is particularly found in countries like Malaysia, the Philippines, and some parts of Australia. It is also cultivated in other subtropical and tropical regions due to its ability to thrive in warm and humid climates.
Characteristics
The Alocasia cucullata is an evergreen perennial plant with a distinctive heart-shaped leaf form. The leaves have a glossy dark green color and can reach a maximum width of 20 centimeters. The plant has characteristic dense leaf rosettes that can grow up to 60 centimeters tall. This plant rarely blooms, but when it does, it produces smaller white flowers on a thin green stem.
Care
The Alocasia cucullata generally requires minimal care. It thrives best in indirect sunlight and can sustain damage if exposed to direct sunlight, especially in the full midday sun. The plant prefers consistently moist but well-drained soil to prevent root rot. Moreover, this tropical plant thrives best in high humidity, so it is advisable to place it in a warm and humid space, such as a bathroom or kitchen. Regular fertilization during the growing season is also recommended.
