Description
Origin
The Aglaonema ‘Key Lime’, also known as the Chinese evergreen plant, originates in the humid, shaded tropical forests of Southeast Asia. It includes a wide group of plant species primarily found in the Philippine archipelago and parts of Malaysia and Indonesia. The Aglaonema family is part of the larger Araceae family, or Arum family.
Characteristics
The Aglaonema ‘Key Lime’ is known for its attractive leaves with green and white stripes, which are shiny and bright, hence the nickname ‘Key Lime’. The leaves have a distinctive shape, long and pointed with structured veins. This deciduous plant generally does not exceed 60-90 cm in height. Additionally, the plant has a slow growth rate and can take years to reach its maximum size. Although it can produce flowers, they are usually small and inconspicuous.
Care
The Aglaonema ‘Key Lime’ requires indirect light; in fact, direct sunlight can damage the leaves. It is recommended to place the plant in a location with high humidity, like a bathroom or kitchen. Concerning its water needs, it is better to be conservative and keep the plant rather dry than too wet. Excess water can cause root rot. The plant thrives best at temperatures between 16°C and 24°C. In general, the Aglaonema ‘Key Lime’ is a low-maintenance plant and does not require specific care.
