Description
Origin
The Agave filifera is a species of plant in the Asparagaceae family. The species is native to Mexico, notably the states of Hidalgo and Querétaro. In the past, this plant was also known as Agave filifera var. microceps. The Agave filifera is part of the Agave genus, which includes around 270 species worldwide.
Characteristics
The Agave filifera is a succulent plant that stands out for its decorative shape and size. The plant has narrow, dark green leaves that end in a black spine. The striking feature is the white fibers that hang from the edges of the leaves. The plant can reach a height of 60 centimeters and produces yellow-green flowers up to 3 meters high in summer.
Care
In the care of the Agave filifera, the plant prefers full sun and well-drained soil to prevent root rot. Good drainage is essential when planting to avoid the roots staying in water. The plant is quite drought-resistant but still requires regular watering during the summer and less in winter. Generally, they tolerate frost less well, although some species can survive winter conditions without protection.
