Description
Origin
The Aeschynanthus ‘Rasta’ originates from the humid tropical forests of Asia, primarily in regions like Malaysia, the Himalayas, and the western part of the Pacific Ocean. Here, the plant grows in tree canopies and on rocky surfaces, where it benefits from a high humidity level.
Characteristics
The Aeschynanthus ‘Rasta’ is an indoor plant mainly distinguished by its long, hanging stems covered with thick and fleshy leaves. These leaves are dark green on top and have a bronze tint underneath. The name of this plant comes from the striking tubular flowers it produces, which in shape and color resemble an extended lipstick.
Care
Caring for the Aeschynanthus ‘Rasta’ requires a bright location, but not direct sunlight. The plant likes high humidity, which can be simulated by regularly misting with lukewarm water. It is important that the potting soil dries a bit between waterings to prevent root rot. This plant prefers a temperature between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. During the winter period, it is recommended to reduce watering and choose a cooler location.
