Description

Origin
The Acer palmatum ‘Osakazuki’ is a Japanese maple native to the Far East. It is one of the most well-known Acer species in Japan, where it is used in traditional garden architecture as well as in Bonsai culture. This specific variant, ‘Osakazuki’, is known in Japan for its astonishingly beautiful autumn colors.

Characteristics

The Acer palmatum ‘Osakazuki’ is a medium-sized maple that can reach a height between 4 and 6 meters. Its characteristic is its large seven-lobed green leaves that turn into a spectacular bright scarlet red color in autumn. The leaves are larger than those of most other Acer species. In spring, the ‘Osakazuki’ produces understated red flowers that give way to bright red fruits in autumn.

Maintenance

The Acer palmatum ‘Osakazuki’ is a hardy plant that requires little maintenance. A location from partial shade to full sun is recommended for the best autumn colors. It is important to use well-drained and humus-rich soil to prevent the roots from becoming too wet. In general, the ‘Osakazuki’ is resistant to most diseases, but in cases of extreme humidity, there may be a risk of powdery mildew. In such cases, specialized disease treatment is necessary.
