The Acer pal. diss. ‘Stella Rossa’, often also called the Japanese maple, originates from East Asia, specifically from Japan, North Korea, and southeastern Russia. This type of maple has spread around the world over the centuries, particularly in temperate climate areas.
Characteristics
The ‘Stella Rossa’ is distinguished by its deep red leaves that remain on the tree throughout the year. This characteristic color provides a remarkable and graceful appearance. The plant has a compact growth and generally does not exceed four meters in height. The ‘Stella Rossa’ has the unique feature of having a very beautiful intense autumn color that changes from red to an almost purple color.
Care
Regarding care, the Acer pal. diss. ‘Stella Rossa’ is not a demanding plant. It does well both in full sun and partial shade and prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Regular pruning is not necessary unless you want to control the shape of the plant or remove dead or diseased branches. The plant is quite winter hardy, but young plants may benefit from some protection against severe frost in winter.
