Description

Origin
The Acer palmatum dissectum ‘Garnet’ is a variety of Japanese maple originating from East Asia. It is a popular species in landscape architecture and gardening, especially in temperate climate regions. This species was first introduced to the West in the 19th century.

Characteristics

The Acer pal. diss. ‘Garnet’ is distinguished by its remarkable leaf color, a deep red. The leaves are fine and delicately cut, giving the plant an elegant appearance. In autumn, the leaf color changes to a beautiful red-orange hue. The ‘Garnet’ remains relatively small compared to other maples, usually reaching a height of 2 to 3 meters, with an equivalent spread.

Care

The Acer pal. diss. ‘Garnet’ requires moderate maintenance. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and needs well-drained soil. The plant prefers slightly acidic soil but can also survive in neutral or slightly alkaline conditions. Regular pruning helps to maintain the shape and size of the tree but is not absolutely necessary due to its slow growth.
