Description
Origin
The Acer palmatum dissectum ‘Garnet’ is a variety of Japanese maple originally from East Asia. It is a popular species in landscape architecture and landscaping, particularly in temperate climates. This species was first introduced to the West in the 19th century.
Characteristics
The Acer pal. diss. ‘Garnet’ is distinguished by its remarkable foliage color of deep red. The leaves are fine and delicately cut, giving the plant an elegant appearance. In autumn, the color of the leaves changes to a magnificent red-orange hue. The ‘Garnet’ remains relatively small compared to other maples and typically reaches a height of 2 to 3 meters, with an equivalent spread.
Care
The Acer pal. diss. ‘Garnet’ requires moderate maintenance. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and needs well-draining soil. The plant prefers slightly acidic soil but can also survive in neutral or slightly alkaline conditions. Regular pruning helps to maintain the tree’s shape and size, but it is not absolutely necessary due to its slow growth.
