Origin
The Acer palmatum dissectum ‘Garnet’ is a variety of Japanese maple originally from East Asia. It is a popular species in landscape architecture and gardening, particularly in temperate climate regions. This species was first introduced to the West in the 19th century.
Characteristics
The Acer pal. diss. ‘Garnet’ is distinguished by its remarkable foliage color, a deep red. The leaves are fine and delicately cut, giving the plant an elegant appearance. In autumn, the leaf color changes to a magnificent red-orange hue. The ‘Garnet’ remains relatively small compared to other maples and usually reaches a height of 2 to 3 meters, with an equivalent spread.
Care
The Acer pal. diss. ‘Garnet’ requires moderate maintenance. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and needs well-drained soil. The plant prefers slightly acidic soil but can also survive in neutral or slightly alkaline conditions.
