Origin
Acer palmatum dissectum ‘Garnet’ is a variety of Japanese maple originally from East Asia. It is a popular species in landscape architecture and landscaping, particularly in regions with a temperate climate. This species was first introduced to the West in the 19th century.
Characteristics
Acer pal. diss. ‘Garnet’ is distinguished by its remarkable foliage color, a deep red. The leaves are thin and delicately cut, giving the plant an elegant appearance. In autumn, the leaf color changes to a beautiful red-orange hue. The ‘Garnet’ remains relatively small compared to other maples and generally reaches a height of 2 to 3 meters, with an equivalent spread.
Care
Acer pal. diss. ‘Garnet’ requires moderate care. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and needs well-drained soil. The plant prefers slightly acidic soil but can also survive in neutral or slightly alkaline conditions. Regular pruning helps maintain the shape and size of the tree, but it is not absolutely necessary due to its slow growth.
