Description

Origin
The Acer palmatum ‘Crimson Queen’ is a Japanese maple originating from East Asia, specifically Japan, China, and Korea. This plant is part of the Sapindaceae family. The decorative maple has been cultivated in Japan for centuries for its aesthetically appealing appearance.

Characteristics

The ‘Crimson Queen’ is known for its deep red leaves and gracefully drooping branches. The leaves are deeply incised and have five to seven lobes with a finely toothed edge, which take on a beautiful scarlet red color in autumn. The plant is quite compact, reaching a maximum adult height of four meters. In addition, the ‘Crimson Queen’ produces small purple flowers followed by red fruits.

Maintenance

As for maintenance, the Acer pal. diss ‘Crimson Queen’ prefers a location in partial shade to full sun but requires protection from strong winds. The plant prefers well-draining, acidic to neutral soils. It is important to keep the soil moist, but too much water can cause root rot. This plant is cold-resistant, but young plants may need protection from severe frost. Regular pruning is not necessary, except to remove dead branches or maintain the desired shape.
