Description
Origin
Acer pal. ‘Asahi Zuru’, also known as the Red Maple, is a tree species native to Japan. The name ‘Asahi Zuru’ means ‘morning crane’ in Japanese, illustrating the aesthetics of this tree species.
Characteristic
The ‘Asahi Zuru’ is distinguished by its striking leaves, which often consist of three to five lobes and vary in color from red-pink to green with white edges. This maple species can grow up to 6 meters high and is recognized for its abundance of flowers. The flowering period typically occurs in May, where the flowers develop into red-winged seeds that mature in the fall.
Care
Despite the magnificent appearance of Acer pal. ‘Asahi Zuru’, this species requires little maintenance. The plant needs well-drained soil and does well in both full sun and partial shade. During drought periods, additional watering may be necessary, but generally, the tree is drought-resistant. For optimal health and growth, pruning the tree in the fall is important, removing dead or overlapping branches.
